For all staff in school we share a responsibility to ensure that children are safe and properly supervised at all times. The Aquila School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All post holders are subject to appropriate vetting procedures and satisfactory Criminal Background Checks or equivalent covering the previous 10 years’ employment history.
This is a non-class based post- to lead and manage all aspects of our year 2 and 3 classes working alongside the other assistant heads. We would expect the post holder to spend at least 80% of their class time working alongside children and teachers improving the quality of teaching and learning.

To upskill teachers in years 2 and 3 to be the most effective teachers they can be
To be accountable for ensuring that children in years 2 and 3 are inspired, motivated and equipped to make as much progress with their learning as possible through ‘amazing learning’
To work collaboratively with colleagues and families
To ensure key actions from recent inspection reports are implemented and having a positive impact across the classes
To have a positive impact on the work of the school
To promote our school to the local community to increase pupil numbers and reach our pupil numbers target
Key duties include:
Ensuring teaching and learning in classes in year 2 and 3 are of the highest standard and personalised to specifically meet individual needs and the phase meets the school’s challenging targets for progress and attainment
Leading CPD for all members of the school community
Ensuring all aspects of the day to day running of the school are smooth
Ensuring the school maintains a positive and respectful ethos
Ensuring the curriculum is inclusive and learner led, taking into account the cultural heritage of the school community and the local region
Ensuring all aspects of science including teaching, learning, curriculum, assessment and data are high quality across EYFS and key stages 1 and 2
Communicating with families about learning and other issues related to school
Ensuring children are safe and well cared for at all times
Ensuring effective communication and leading the work of others
Complying with our agreed policies and Aquila Ways
Actively engaging with our school community e.g. through newsletters, informal dialogue, reporting, supporting school functions and contributing to community and marketing activities
Actively participating in the performance management process of self and others
*We are currently reviewing roles within the team and there may be minor changes to this job description in place for August 2022*
In addition, all staff are required to carry out any tasks required by the school or the regional office to facilitate the smooth day to day running of the school
To be line managed by the Head of Primary
Hours of work- 7.25am-4.15pm Monday to Thursday and 7.25am to 12pm on Fridays plus occasional evening, weekend and Friday afternoon work
Holidays- as per the school KHDA approved calendar plus five days during the school holiday.
